Placing the sculpture for the Muséo Bellomo was fraught with problems. The original site chosen, in the inside courtyard of the museum was dropped during the project as the doors and staircases would have represented physical barriers which would have made the installation impossible.
But there were other barriers, psychological ones. The placement of a contemporary work within the museum was accepted by some of those responsible as a way of opening up the museum to the modern world, to others it was an exercise in bad taste. I had a similar experience when I proposed putting a contemporary work into the grotto in the Balby garden in Versailles.
A compromise solution was found and the sculpture was installed, but only temporarily, in the piazza in front of the museum.
It was subsequently installed in a revised form in the château in Ragusa.
